The Spare Underground Key is a key item in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. It is used to unlock doors in the underground area of Bulbfish Island.

Mario and Luigi learn about the key after they speak with Burnadette and Chilliam after the two are arrested and taken underground. They mention it is held by the security guard. Once they exit, they speak with the security guard to try and borrow a key. The guard approves, but on the condition that they get information from his younger brother, as he is a witness. To know of his whereabouts, the Bros. must meet with the secret snatcher by turning off the streetlights and heading to the island's northwest tip. There, they hand in the Incident Report to the secret snatcher, who shares information on the younger brother's location at the Anglerfish Restaurant.

Once the Bros. speak with the younger brother at the restaurant, he states that he went to the fish pen to get Bulbfish the night of their theft and passed by someone holding a big bottle. He also mentions the person was wearing glasses, revealing the culprit to be Leyden's assistant. They then go to speak with the security guard, who becomes let down, to which the Bros. and Snoutlet reassure him. The guard declares the final challenge passed and prepares to hand them the spare key, but he has misplaced it. A Zokkarang Trooper then blasts him with a mysterious ray of light, causing him to become uncooperative and refuse to give them the key. The guard runs away, but bumps into Luigi on the way, causing him to drop the key. Mario and Luigi then go underground, where they use the key to open up the many jail cell doors, including that of Chilliam and Burnadette's cell.
